Consoles and stacking
All right. Those of us that have played for awhile please bear with me on this
I get asked quite frequently about consoles and stacking, so for our newer members......here goes:
Tactical consoles:
All tactical consoles stack in a linear fashion, even if they are disimilar. What I mean by this is, if I have 2 Tetryon Pulse Generator consoles, each giving plus 20 to Tetryon weapons, I get a total of plus 40 to Tetryon weapons. If I am using beam arrays, and I use 1 Tetryon Pulse Generator and 1 Directed Energy Distribution Manifold, One giving me plus 20 to Tetryon Weapons, and one giving me plus 20 to Beam weapons I get a total of plus 40 again. Here is the catch: This only works for beams in the second example. If I am using Dual Heavy Tetryon Cannons, the Directed Energy Distribution Manifold bonus will not apply. So unless you are flying a cruiser or science ship I suggest with sticking to the damage type console that you use.
Science Consoles:
Pretty much stack the same as Tactical consoles. Two Halon systems each giving me a bonus of 20 to Hazzard Emitters will give me a total of plus 40.
Engineering consoles:
Here we come to the exception in the linear stacking. Some do some don't.
All engineering consoles that DO NOT give a resistance bonus stack in a linear fashion. This group includes consoles for speed and turning (such as RCS Accelerator consoles). All engineering consoles that DO give a resistance bonus suffer from diminishing returns. Examples are Electroceramic Hull Plating and Monotanium Alloy. Without going into a long and drawn out mathmatical explanation on diminishing returns (cryptic did this to prevent a 100% resistance to any damage type) suffice it to say that it is never reccomended to use more than 2 consoles giving the same resistance bonus.
The bonuses from the borg universal console all stack in a linear fashion with the bonuses of all other consoles.
The Field Generator console that gives plus 35% to shield capacity WILL NOT stack with another one. You can only use one of them.
Hope this helps and fly safe!
